As you are aware, the Union has filed unfair labor practice charges against Boeing for their illegal conduct throughout negotiations. The NLRB is currently interviewing members who were involved in the direct dealing and we believe we have a strong case.
If this is declared an Unfair Labor Practice strike, there is a slim chance that members who apply for unemployment and go through the appeal process during the strike might qualify for unemployment benefits.
Therefore, IAM members on strike against Boeing should file for unemployment in case they qualify for benefits as a result of our ULP Claim. Bottom line: fill out an application and go through the appeal process.
There are 3 ways in which to file for unemployment benefits:
On the web visit www.uibenefits.dol.ks.gov/Choose.asp -- which is the fastest way to file; or
By phone call

File a paper claim. Forms are available at all unemployment
offices. (The paper claim will be the slowest method).
NOTE: All claims will automatically be denied. Once the claim is denied, you MUST file an appeal during the strike. The State Unemployment Insurance (UI) Department will wait until all appeals are filed before sending them to an Administrative Judge who will rule on the matter. If the judge determines the Union was justified in their ULP claim, then everyone who was denied benefits and filed an Appeal may be determined to receive benefits.
Keep in mind that receiving benefits depends on an Administrative
Judge. However, the UI department is encouraging our members to
file claims and to follow the WHOLE process, because unless you
filed and appealed your denial DURING THE STRIKE, you would
not receive any benefits if the ULP decision went our way.
